This lush, volcanic-dense island in the Eastern Caribbean is the nature lover’s dream. It is remote enough to be underdeveloped, and difficult enough to navigate to make quiet forays through hiking trails and underwater diving a placid exercise in mindfulness.
Initially, I took my desire to walk in Cohen’s footsteps quite literally. Yet my few days on Hydra showed me that the true legacy of Leonard Cohen, and the other artists who have lived on or frequented this island, wasn’t just contained within its buildings or labyrinthine paths. On the contrary, there is a long legacy of creativity on Hydra.
